Silent Linear
Yes, that’s a POG slammer from the 90’s.
The Ninja Turtle is a silent linear with rad 'tude. Nice and smooth thanks to the JWK UHMWPE housing, and super quiet thanks to the Gazzew stem and TX films.
Fresh from the oven. Sewer. ...Wait...
The keen-eyed among you might spot some over-lubing on my part; this was one of my early attempts.
I put these switches together for a friend who already knew he liked the Gazzew silent linear stems, and also loves the color green. Like myself, he's an 80's kid who grew up in the 90's, and that definitely comes through in his style. As I was working on his board, I see this:
I see you under there.
Already primed for 90's culture and green things, this immediately pops into my mind:
You could go the extra thematic mile and color-coordinate the films to their masks.
How could I not call these things "Ninja Turtles"? They also inspired me to make this custom badge sticker for his case:
Ah, back when my workmat was clean...
These Kiwi housings are proving better homes for these stealthy stems than the YOK Pandas I had them in before - not that those were bad, but I think the tolerances are better for the stem here, leading to a bit more crisp feel.
Turtle Power! - This shot actually shows the switches with the softer black Deskeys films, which I ultimately didn't find suitable for these.
Any switch with these stems is going to be very quiet, and of course these are no exception. The dampened bottom-out might be a turn-off for some, but the owner of these switches picked out these stems as an easy favorite because of it. The bottom-out feel is pretty unique, and definitely distinct from other silent linears I have tried.
TX polycarb films - much better for my goals here.
Now all I need is some pizza!
